To avoid any risk of infection , it is important to wash your cyclic protection thoroughly before and after each use.

After each use, it is very important to rinse your protection well to remove all blood. This will prevent the development of certain bacteria.
Rinsing with water or mild soap is sufficient.

Once rinsed, you can reuse your menstrual disc directly and keep it for 8 hours.
If you are not going to reuse it directly , remember to rinse it again with water just before your next use.

If you do not reuse it before the next cycle, it will need to be sterilized.

Sterilize your reusable period disc

When should you sterilize your reusable menstrual protection?

Sterilization involves placing your menstrual disc in boiling water to kill bacteria.
You must at least sterilize your reusable protection at each first use of your cycle . That is, at least once every 28 days (average duration of a cycle).

How to sterilize your menstrual disc?

Here is the most well-known and effective trick to sterilize your menstrual disc. You will simply need a saucepan :

  1. Boil water in a saucepan.
  2. Place your menstrual disc in boiling water .
  3. Wait 5 min .
  4. Then remove your menstrual disc .
  5. Wait 2 to 3 minutes .
  6. Rinse it at room temperature.

That's it, your menstrual disc is now sterilized. 🎊

You can also sterilize your protection with a kettle :

  1. Put some water on to boil with your kettle.
  2. Place your menstrual disc in a bowl , mug or similar.
  3. Pour boiling water over the menstrual disc.
  4. Wait 5 to 7 minutes .
  5. Then rinse it directly with lukewarm water.
